Dr. Douglas K. Peterson
Assistant Professor of Management
"We
manage in an environment that shows increasing dynamic complexity and
internationalization. In order to deal with the increased scope and complexity,
managers must develop a broader and more integrated base of knowledge, skills
and abilities than ever before."
"My
mission as a scholar is to promote learning. I do this by providing instruction,
by researching topics of interest to scholars and management professionals, and
by providing professional outreach services to the institution and to relevant
members of the environment.

Douglas Peterson, Ph.D.
I
completed my Ph.D. in "The Interdisciplinary Areas of Business" at the
University of Nebraska in 1997. My areas of
study currently include international organizational behavior, international
human resources management, and organizational theory. I am also interested in
the application of compensation systems on employee attitude development. Prior
to receiving my Ph.D. at Nebraska, I completed an M.B.A. in general management
at the University of Kansas School of Business,
and a B.A. in Political Science and Personnel Administration at the University
of Kansas.
I've
worked in higher education for thirteen years. I began teaching at the
collegiate level at the age of 26. Over the years, I've taught a great many
different courses at both the M.B.A. and the undergraduate levels. It is
my mission to always perform my best, and to deliver meaningful instruction and
professional service wherever I work. I have been nominated for several teaching
awards, including the Associated Students of Nebraska Outstanding Faculty Award,
and the College of Business Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Assistant
Award. My favorite classes to teach are Principles of Management,
Organizational Behavior, International Business, and Organizational Theory.
Before joining higher education, I worked for Prentice-Hall Publishing Company, and for the Flecto Corporation.
Professional
organizations I am affiliated with include the Academy
of Management, the Decision Sciences Institute, the Society
for Human Resources Management, the Academy of International
Business, and the Pan Pacific Business Association. I've traveled throughout
Southeastern Asia, including Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and
Australia. I also travel frequently throughout the Americas, including frequent
trips to Mexico, Central America, Brazil, and Columbia. I speak English,
Spanish, French, and some Bahasa.
For
professional outreach, I've developed a consulting practice called Peterson and Associates Professional
Consulting Services (PNA). PNA provides international human
resources and general management- organizational design related consulting and
research services to government, corporations, and small business. So far, PNA
has proven to be the excellent source of research data and business contact (in
both the private and public sector) that I use to inform and enliven my lecture
and classroom activity.
